This program is designed to equip the next generation of physicians in Bangladesh with the essential skills and knowledge necessary for emergency care.


The Emergency Medicine Certificate course will introduce participants to the specialty of emergency medicine. Written and delivered by Emergency Medicine specialists from Australia, it offers valuable insight into the challenging and dynamic world of emergency care.


The course provides a solid foundation on which to build knowledge and clinical experience. It is designed to improve confidence and expand understanding of the systems, principles, and approaches used to manage patients commonly presenting to emergency care settings. With limited places available, we’re now accepting expressions of interest for the cohort commencing in late 2026.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Doctors working in an Emergency Department. Clinicians must be living and working in Bangladesh to be eligible to join the program.


CERTIFICATION

Participants will receive a certificate jointly awarded by the Alfred Emergency Academic Centre, a part of Alfred Health, and Monash University, recognised internationally for excellence in Emergency Medicine education.

Faculty

A/Prof Reza Ali

Associate Professor Reza Ali is a Specialist in Emergency Medicine and an Associate Professor at Western Sydney University. With over two decades of experience, he has led major clinical redesign projects, contributed to national research initiatives, and played a key role in policy development. His work has earned him multiple awards for contributions to emergency care and healthcare improvement.

Dr Mohammed Pavel

Dr Mohammed Pavel is a Specialist in Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine with 15 years of experience in Australia’s leading hospitals. He has expertise in trauma and cardiac arrest management and is passionate about strengthening healthcare systems in developing regions while mentoring future emergency physicians.

Dr Momtaz Rafi

Dr Momtaz Rafi is a Specialist in Emergency Medicine with over 12 years of experience in emergency and trauma care. She has a special interest in paediatrics, high-pressure decision-making, and medical education. As a former ACEM Education Coordinator, she established teaching programs across multiple hospitals and remains committed to simulation training and mentorship.

Dr Golam Sarwar

Dr Golam Sarwar is a Specialist in Emergency Medicine at Logan Hospital, Queensland, and Clinical Lead for the Geriatric Emergency Medicine Unit. A Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, he specialises in geriatric emergency care, ultrasound, and quality improvement. He also serves as a Senior Lecturer at Griffith University, contributing to emergency medicine education and research.

Dr Shaila Islam

Dr Shaila Islam is a Senior Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine with over 14 years of experience in the Western Sydney Local Health District. She is actively involved in medical education, mentoring medical students, junior doctors, and registrars. Dedicated to hands-on training, she regularly conducts bedside teaching, workshops, and fellowship exam preparation for emergency medicine trainees.

Dr Jannatun Nayim

Dr Jannatun Nayim is a Senior Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine with over a decade of experience. She has a strong focus on medical education, having served as a Director of Emergency Medicine Training for seven years and currently supervising junior doctors. She is also a supervisor for ACEM EMC and EMD courses and an AMC WBA Assessor for IMGs. In addition to her clinical role, she leads Morbidity & Mortality meetings, ensuring quality improvement in emergency care. She is also an instructor in ALS 2 and APLS courses.

Dr David McCreary

Dr David McCreary is an Emergency Physician at the Alfred Hospital and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University. He completed his undergraduate training in the UK at the University of Liverpool and completed his MSc in Trauma Science from Queen Mary’s University, London. David trained in Emergency Medicine in a variety of centres in UK and Australia and is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.

Dr Binula Wickramarachchi

Dr Binula Wickramarachchi is an Emergency Physician at the Alfred Emergency & Trauma Centre and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University. He completed his undergraduate training at the University of Auckland in 2011, prior to making the move across the Tasman for his emergency specialist training. His clinical experience includes emergency, critical care and retrieval medicine in various sites across Melbourne and Darwin.

Dr Rasel Ahmed

Dr Rasel Ahmed is a Specialist in Emergency Medicine at Nepean Hospital, Sydney, and a Visiting Medical Officer at Blacktown-Mt Druitt Hospitals. A Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine since 2018, he specialises in emergency ultrasound and trauma management. He leads the Quality Team in Nepean’s Emergency Department, focusing on patient care and safety.

Dr Jahir Ahmed

Dr Jahir Ahmed is a passionate Specialist in Emergency Medicine dedicated to managing critically unwell patients. He is actively involved in medical education, quality improvement, and continuous professional development. With strong leadership and communication skills, he fosters teamwork and inclusivity in high-pressure environments, striving to enhance patient care through evidence-based practice.

Professor Abul Bashar Md. Jamal

Professor Abul Bashar Md. Jamal is President of the Bangladesh Society of Emergency Medicine and Secretary of the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a senior surgeon and medical education leader in Bangladesh. He holds fellowships from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, along with a Master in Medical Education.
He has played a key role in developing undergraduate and postgraduate medical curricula nationally and established one of the first Medical Education Departments in Bangladesh. His work spans training program development, surgical skills education, and international academic collaboration. He is actively involved in academic assessment, research ethics, and advancing global standards in medical education.

Dr Muhammad Hasan Andalib

Dr Muhammad Hasan Andalib is Senior Consultant and Coordinator of Accident and Emergency at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, and a senior emergency physician with over 25 years of clinical experience across Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. He completed his MBBS at Dhaka Medical College and undertook further training within the National Health Service, working across acute medicine, general internal medicine, and intensive care. He served as a Senior Clinical Fellow and Specialist Registrar, developing extensive expertise in managing complex and critically unwell patients. Dr Andalib has worked in emergency medicine for nearly two decades. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, an international MRCP PACES examiner, and an accredited instructor in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support with the American Heart Association.

Major General Dr Md Masudul Alam Mazumder

Major General Md Masudul Alam Mazumder is Commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College in Bangladesh and a senior leader in military and academic medicine.

He holds qualifications including MBBS, FCPS, and a Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine, with extensive experience in critical care and emergency medicine. He has played a significant role in advancing healthcare delivery, particularly in the management of critically ill patients during dengue outbreaks and the COVID 19 pandemic.

His work focuses on strengthening emergency and critical care systems in resource limited settings, alongside advancing clinical techniques such as haemoperfusion and haemodiafiltration. He is also actively involved in healthcare innovation, with a strong interest in system automation and medical education development.

Dr A.Z.M. Ahsan Ullah

Dr A.Z.M. Ahsan Ullah is an Assistant Professor in Cardiology at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka, and a clinician and educator specialising in Emergency Medicine and Cardiology.

He completed his MBBS at Rajshahi Medical College and undertook further training including a Diploma in Emergency Medicine through the Royal Liverpool Academy and a Diploma in Cardiology from Bangladesh Medical University. His clinical work spans acute care, trauma, and cardiovascular emergencies.

He has held key roles in developing structured emergency services in Bangladesh and is an experienced instructor in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and WHO Basic Emergency Care programs. He currently serves as Organising Secretary and Treasurer of the Bangladesh Society of Emergency Medicine.

Dr Mir Saaduddin Ahmad

Dr Mir Saaduddin Ahmad is Consultant and Head of Emergency Medicine at Continental Hospital PLC and Secretary General of the Bangladesh Society of Emergency Medicine, with extensive experience across Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.

A UK-trained emergency physician, he has held senior roles within the NHS and is actively involved in emergency and trauma service development. His work focuses on emergency department transformation, pre-hospital care, and workforce development aligned with international best practice.

He also contributes to global health initiatives through leadership roles in humanitarian programs and international health system strengthening, supporting the development of sustainable emergency care systems.

Dr Nehal Hasnain Sarja

Dr Nehal Hasnain Sarja is a Specialist in Emergency Medicine at Albury Wodonga Health, Australia. He holds Fellowship of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM) and has worked as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine in the UK National Health Service, with extensive experience across adult, paediatric, trauma, and critical care emergency settings.

He serves as an examiner for the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and is an accredited ALS and ATLS Instructor. He is actively involved in clinician training and mentorship, with a strong interest in medical education, clinical leadership, and quality improvement.

Dr Sarja has experience in clinical governance and digital innovation within emergency care systems. He is passionate about advancing emergency medicine education globally and supporting the development of high-quality emergency care in resource-variable settings.
