This landmark program, led by Monash University, is shaping the next generation of Emergency Medicine physicians in Bangladesh - equipping doctors with the knowledge, skills, and global connections to deliver high-quality emergency care nationwide.
This program is designed to equip the next generation of physicians in Bangladesh with the essential skills and knowledge necessary for emergency care.
The Emergency Medicine Certificate course will introduce participants to the specialty of emergency medicine. Written and delivered by Emergency Medicine specialists from Australia, it offers valuable insight into the challenging and dynamic world of emergency care.
The course provides a solid foundation on which to build knowledge and clinical experience. It is designed to improve confidence and expand understanding of the systems, principles, and approaches used to manage patients commonly presenting to emergency care settings. With limited places available, we’re now accepting expressions of interest for the March 2026 cohort.
Eligible applicants are encouraged to apply via the registration button above. All applications will be reviewed by mid-December 2025, and successful candidates will receive offers of registration shortly after.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Doctors working in an Emergency Department. Clinicians must be living and working in Bangladesh to be eligible to join the program.
CERTIFICATION
Participants will receive a certificate jointly awarded by the Alfred Emergency Academic Centre, a part of Alfred Health, and Monash University, recognised internationally for excellence in Emergency Medicine education.
Faculty

A/Prof Reza Ali
Associate Professor Reza Ali is a Specialist in Emergency Medicine and an Associate Professor at Western Sydney University. With over two decades of experience, he has led major clinical redesign projects, contributed to national research initiatives, and played a key role in policy development. His work has earned him multiple awards for contributions to emergency care and healthcare improvement.

Dr Mohammed Pavel
Dr Mohammed Pavel is a Specialist in Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine with 15 years of experience in Australia’s leading hospitals. He has expertise in trauma and cardiac arrest management and is passionate about strengthening healthcare systems in developing regions while mentoring future emergency physicians.

Dr Momtaz Rafi
Dr Momtaz Rafi is a Specialist in Emergency Medicine with over 12 years of experience in emergency and trauma care. She has a special interest in paediatrics, high-pressure decision-making, and medical education. As a former ACEM Education Coordinator, she established teaching programs across multiple hospitals and remains committed to simulation training and mentorship.

Dr Golam Sarwar
Dr Golam Sarwar is a Specialist in Emergency Medicine at Logan Hospital, Queensland, and Clinical Lead for the Geriatric Emergency Medicine Unit. A Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, he specialises in geriatric emergency care, ultrasound, and quality improvement. He also serves as a Senior Lecturer at Griffith University, contributing to emergency medicine education and research.

Dr Shaila Islam
Dr Shaila Islam is a Senior Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine with over 14 years of experience in the Western Sydney Local Health District. She is actively involved in medical education, mentoring medical students, junior doctors, and registrars. Dedicated to hands-on training, she regularly conducts bedside teaching, workshops, and fellowship exam preparation for emergency medicine trainees.

Dr Jannatun Nayim
Dr Jannatun Nayim is a Senior Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine with over a decade of experience. She has a strong focus on medical education, having served as a Director of Emergency Medicine Training for seven years and currently supervising junior doctors. She is also a supervisor for ACEM EMC and EMD courses and an AMC WBA Assessor for IMGs. In addition to her clinical role, she leads Morbidity & Mortality meetings, ensuring quality improvement in emergency care. She is also an instructor in ALS 2 and APLS courses.

Dr. Dave McCreary
Dr David McCreary is an Emergency Physician at the Alfred Hospital and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University. He completed his undergraduate training in the UK at the University of Liverpool and completed his MSc in Trauma Science from Queen Mary’s University, London. David trained in Emergency Medicine in a variety of centres in UK and Australia and is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.

Dr Binula Wickramarachchi
Dr Binula Wickramarachchi is an Emergency Physician at the Alfred Emergency & Trauma Centre and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University. He completed his undergraduate training at the University of Auckland in 2011, prior to making the move across the Tasman for his emergency specialist training. His clinical experience includes emergency, critical care and retrieval medicine in various sites across Melbourne and Darwin.

Dr Rasel Ahmed
Dr Rasel Ahmed is a Specialist in Emergency Medicine at Nepean Hospital, Sydney, and a Visiting Medical Officer at Blacktown-Mt Druitt Hospitals. A Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine since 2018, he specialises in emergency ultrasound and trauma management. He leads the Quality Team in Nepean’s Emergency Department, focusing on patient care and safety.

Dr Jahir Ahmed
Dr Jahir Ahmed is a passionate Specialist in Emergency Medicine dedicated to managing critically unwell patients. He is actively involved in medical education, quality improvement, and continuous professional development. With strong leadership and communication skills, he fosters teamwork and inclusivity in high-pressure environments, striving to enhance patient care through evidence-based practice.
