The Society for Emergency Medicine India (SEMI) has partnered with The Alfred Emergency & Trauma Centre (The Alfred E&TC) and Monash University in Australia to deliver an internationally certified emergency medicine training program for India.


This highly structured program will build on your formal training in emergency medicine (DNB/MD/MEM/MRCEM). It is an opportunity to take your knowledge and experience to an international level and give you skills and confidence for your practice of emergency medicine in India and beyond.

Students will be required to complete online studies over a six-month period. Learning elements include online self-directed readings, podcasts and discussions, live online tutorials and a portfolio of assessments run by expert faculty from Australia and India.



WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is relevant to MDs wishing to extend their current emergency medicine training via an international program and achieve mastery in this specialty. To be eligible to attend this program, you must:

  • Hold MBBS / MD or equivalent in Allopathic Medicine

  • Have a minimum of two years full-time work experience in the Emergency Department (EMO/CMO) (or) currently pursuing EM (Resident in emergency medicine - MD/DNB/MCEM/MEM)

  • Hold Registration with the Society of Emergency Medicine India

CERTIFICATION

Graduating students will receive a certificate of successful completion from Alfred Health and Monash University. This certificate will indicate competency in the learning objectives described in the course overview. Credit towards Master programs can be obtained subject to the requirements of the awarding institution.




Prof Peter Cameron

Professor Peter Cameron serves as the Academic Director of Alfred Emergency Academic Centre and holds the position of Professor of Emergency Medicine at Monash University. He has previously served as the President of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and the International Federation for Emergency Medicine. With a global focus, Peter has provided consultation and published extensively on trauma and emergency system development. His impressive research portfolio includes over 700 peer-reviewed publications. In his role, Peter leads teaching, research at Alfred Health, aligning with the organisation's strategic priorities and values.

Dr Arun Ilancheran

Dr Arun Ilancheran holds Specialist Fellowships from the College of Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine, and a Bachelor of Medicine- Bachelor of Surgery with Honours. He is an Adjunct Lecturer at Monash and Notre Dame Universities and is dedicated to improving the education of medical students at public hospitals.

Dr Saravana Kumar

Dr Saravana Kumar is the National President of the Society of Emergency Medicine India and General Manager and Group Unit Head at Dr Mehta’s Hospitals, Chennai. Dr Kumar has a passion for Quality and Patient Safety and Implemented a Fellowship in Emergency Medicine certification course under SEMI in 2009.

Dr T S Srinath Kumar

Dr T S Srinath Kumar is the Chair of Academics at the Society of Emergency Medicine India and was President from 2014-16. He is currently the National Academic Coordinator for all DNB specialities with ANBAI, an Association of NBE-accredited Hospitals in India.

Dr David McCreary

Dr David McCreary is an Emergency Physician at the Alfred Hospital and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University. He completed his undergraduate training in the UK at the University of Liverpool and completed his MSc in Trauma Science from Queen Mary’s University, London.

Dr Sai Surendar

Dr Sai Surendar is a Senior Consultant and Head of Emergency Medicine at Kamakshi Memorial Hospitals in Chennai, India. Dr Surendar is also the Vice President (South) of the Society of Emergency Medicine India. Having worked both in India and abroad, he is fluent in Tamil, Hindi, French, Arabic and English.
